Extraordinary HuntnBuddy App – Joe Rogan
I’m just flat out excited and flat out will mean something a little bit, but we have Joe Rogan, Spencer Boyd and, John Lenox. We’re going to be talking about Hunt’n Buddy app and that’s created to help you hunters get home, find out where your game is and a lot of other things. Joe, welcome.
Thanks for having us. Hunt’n Buddy was made out of necessity. We compiled this data from other hunters, from personal experiences and created an app that is easy to use and packed full of different technology and features that not only keeps you safe but helps you plot pre-hunt, post-hunt and during the hunt. We have the most interactive social platform out there and we’re just constantly evolving. Every day we’re getting messages from users and we’ve been doing things that make sense and we implement. That’s pretty much how we’ve been going. We’re at the point now where we were able to do this big giveaway, which we’re going to talk about. Big things are coming.
John Lenox, how’d you and Rush Outdoors get involved with Hunt’n Buddy app?
One of our field staff guys actually met Joe and Joe presented the idea and the concept with him. As a group, we sat down and looked it over. The differences that put the Hunt’n Buddy app head and shoulders above other hunting apps were as blatant as could be. Getting to know Joe and Jonathan really told us that they were the people we wanted to work with. In the hunting industry, there are a lot of gadgets from equipment to hunting apps, you name it. It’s a not very often that one comes along that jumps off the screen at you and the Hunt’n Buddy app was it. Getting to know Joe a little bit better and spending time on the phone with him, you could see that it was not just a quality app, but it’s a progressive app and they’re making changes all the time based on a member’s suggestions. We’ve been impressed with them and that’s why we’ve chosen to hitch our wagon to him.
Rush Outdoors is on the Pursuit Channel, is that correct?
The Rush Outdoors, actually there are two television shows. Rush Outdoors airs regionally on nine networks throughout New York State 52 weeks a year, New York State, Northern Pennsylvania and Southern Ontario. On the Pursuit Channel is The World of Rush Outdoors, which is the national incarnation of who we are. We’re a hunting show based out of New York that tells a pretty interesting story. When people say New York, all that’s thought of is concrete and steel. They focus on New York City, not realizing the rich outdoor heritage that we truly have here in the state of New York. Rush Outdoors and World of Rush Outdoors are a celebration.
Thanks for sharing that. Spencer, how did you get involved with the Hunt’n Buddy app?
I’m 23 years old. I’m a younger guy, but I’ve grown up in the outdoors. I’ve done a lot of hunting with my grandparents and my dad. Racing has always been what I strive for in life and wanting to be a race car driver, but outdoors has always been a passion. One of the things that I follow on social media is a lot of outdoor guys and different companies in general. I came across Hunt’n Buddy app. I was like, “This is cool. Maybe I can reach out to the owner and get involved somehow and then see what partnership is out there.” I started talking to Joe on social media and it was so cool. Fans talk to me on Twitter all the time and they’re like, “That’s cool that it’s the real Spencer Boyd.” The same thing goes for me, when I reached out to the company to get to the CEO, the guy who designed the logo, came up with the app, has so much passion behind this app. It’s been a great relationship. I think we talk weekly now. We head out to a race and we’ve got a few more coming up. With this big hunt coming up, it’s just been a great relationship and we have really similar backgrounds and family values. When it comes to hunting and the outdoors, a lot of us are like-minded individuals and makes for good conversations.
One thing we talked about is why we hunt. Spencer, you bring your dad and then Joe got a little misty there. What’s that all about?
First of all, I just want to thank John. That means a lot to the company and me. This from saying that being in the field for this long as you are, even though you’re young, that means a lot and then you see something in Austin, Spencer, the same thing. We appreciate what you guys are doing. We know that you guys are the real deal and we respect that and you’re lining with us means a lot. During this whole process of us setting up the giveaway and everything, we offered Spencer’s dad who would be involved and interested in coming in the hunt with us. He confirmed that his dad will be joining us and that personally means the world to me. I lost my dad in 2014 to cancer and that’s something that he and I shared. Hunting, that was our bonding time every year. Memories that at the time were these cool, fun hunting memories that now, looking back, that’s something that obviously I can never get back and something that I’ll always cherish for the rest of my life. To be a part of this and to have you there with your dad is to me personally words can’t express how awesome it is to be able to experience that with you. It’s pretty cool and thank you, dad for wanting to be involved as well.
Hunting, it isn’t just the hunt and sitting in the stand and harvesting deer or whatever you’re after. It’s the hunting tradition, the memories and the relationships that we build. You read that firsthand and that’s one reason why Whitetail Rendezvous is what it is because we bring real folks to the world with their real stories. I’m so excited they chose the show to be their host for their huge hunt giveaway. Joe, let’s jump right into that.
Making good decisions points you to the right direction. Share on XWe’re doing a giveaway to whitetail hunt hosted at ABC Ranch in Canisteo, New York and it’s an all-expense paid whitetail hunt. Three days of hunting, four days total and we’re going to provide the winner with everything including food, tags, transportation, lodging. They’re going to be accompanied by the Hunt’n Buddy team and Spencer Boyd’s dad and going to be filmed by Rush Outdoors, Rush Uncut. It’s going to be broadcasted on Rush Uncut.
That’ll be on the Rush Uncut segment of Rush Outdoors. The lucky winner is going on a whitetail hunt with us at ABC Ranch where there’s a guarantee of 1,000 acres of unfenced, free range property to hunt on. One of our team members from Hunt’n Buddy is there also. He will be our licensed New York state guide. If needed, he can assist at the same time. It’s pretty much old school hunting, traditional hunting. There’s no sit here and he’s going to walk out in five minutes or caged-in animals. Not that there’s anything wrong with any of that, but this is a real traditional whitetail hunt and I know what we’ve all been just speaking about the bonding and we’re picking one winner. The giveaway started and it’s going to end around October 5th, depending on if we shorten it or extend it a little bit, but that’s roughly the time. It’s very simple to join. Download the app at the App Store or Google Play. Go to HuntnBuddyApp.com. A pop up will come up and give you those links. Look for it in iTunes or Google Play.
Download the app and open the app. It will say, “Congratulations. You’ve entered into the giveaway.” We also offer an Outfitter subscription, which unlocks all 50 state parcel data for the whole year. You have unlimited usage of it, which includes 97% of the United States, you can pull up landowners’ information. You can save property boundaries and it also removes any ads that are in the app with the Outfitter subscription. Pretty much for one download, you get one entry into the giveaway and you upgrade to the Outfitter subscription. You get 30 additional entries, which give you 31 entries total if you don’t already have it and increase your chances obviously that much more. This is roughly estimated at around $6,000 hunt. We continue to keep getting lowballing and getting more incentives and companies joining up. I’m actually going to announce live that a sponsor, an affiliate of Spencer Boyd and Spencer Boyd Racing, Kickass Beef Jerky has now joined them and they’re outfitting the whole teams. They have everyone included with some awesome Kickass Beef Jerky products. That’s pretty exciting, even more looking forward to the hunt. Go download it now. Get it.
Download the app, you get a free or you can upgrade it to the Outfitter subscription. That’s $29.99 for the whole year.
You have unlimited parcel data. With the free version, you’re limited to eight parcels collections per month and there are also the ads displayed in the app. When you upgrade, you remove all the ads and it unlocks unlimited parcel data. You can look up any property anywhere that’s available from our third-party servers. You can do mapping and go to town with it.
That’s travel expenses also. It doesn’t matter where you are in the country. Get on an airplane, get in your truck, get in your car and get there and they’re going to give you some gas or plane tickets. What if somebody won and said, “Can I bring my girlfriend, my wife?” A girl when she says, “My boyfriend?” How does that work?
We’re leaving it as is, as one winner. As things progress, we’ll see, but just based on the ranch rules, the lodge rules, the number of people that they want there, that’s what we’re going on in these guidelines. It also depends on Rush Outdoors and the film crew and Spencer and his team. We will be as accommodating as possible, but for now it’s one winner and then once we declare a winner, we still have a month or two before the actual hunt. If there’s any stipulations or whatever, we can work that out.
What’s the tentative date for the actual hunt?
The date is November 30th we would arrive. That is Friday. December 1st is Saturday, December 2nd is Sunday and December 3rd is Monday. We would be hunting Saturday, Sunday and then most likely depart Monday afternoon or Monday night. It’s for four days, three nights.
John, any thoughts?
I’m telling you it’s going to be a ton of fun. This is so in our wheelhouse for a number of reasons. Number one is anytime we can share what New York has to offer, sportsman, we’re going to do that in a heartbeat. You combine that with working with the Hunt’n Buddy guys and Spencer and it’s going to be a ton of fun and the reality is that the filming aspect of it is something that I think the winner’s going to enjoy. Our camera guys have all been doing this for years and they’ll do everything they can to make it simple, relaxing and enjoyable. The opportunity to have a hunt all to yourself is something in the average guy probably never been able to do so. We’re extremely excited to be able to offer that, make this a lot of fun for everybody.
Thanks for partnering up with Hunt’n Buddy app. Spencer, your thoughts?
I’m really excited, given a media opportunity to go on a hunt of a lifetime. This is a big deal for me. It’s a big deal for my dad. The opportunity is going to be great. Rush Outdoors being there to film it, let’s be honest, we’ve all wanted to go on a hunt of a lifetime. We’ve all wanted to have a hunt filmed. A big buck in New York is going to be awesome. You need to check out ABC Ranch and see what they’re about. This is going to be a great time for everyone involved. Outside of the hunting, like Joe talked about, just hanging out. It’s for three nights. That’s a lot of time to talk about hunting stories. We all love that, hanging around the campfire. It’s going to be a nice time at ABC Ranch. It’s great to hang out with Rush Outdoors and I’m sure we’ll put our thumbs to work on Hunt’n Buddy app and working our way around these big whitetails. It’s going to be a good time.
Being with like-minded individuals makes for a good conversation. Share on XJoe, how about wrapping it up for us?
Spencer just brought up a good point. It gave me an idea. The Hunt’n Buddy crew is going to be down to ABC Ranch. We’re going to plan out some waypoints. We’re going to mark trails. We’re going to attract some logging trails and set up where we’re going to put the stands and everything. During the hunt, obviously no one is going to have privileged knowledge of the property. We’re going to use the Hunt’n Buddy app, have everyone going on a live hunt with us and all participants are going to have everything that we’ve previously mapped out. There should be no confusion. We’ll have Spencer, Spencer’s dad, the winner and everything should be laid out the way that the app has intended to do. We’re going to try to capture that as well. We’ll use those and everybody watching can see exactly what it does and how it works in the field, and why it’s successful and a necessity for hunting.
It sounds like a great YouTube video. “I’m at ABC Ranch. Here we are and Jimmy Smith is our guest winner and Spencer Boyd and we’re going to go out and here’s what we’ve done.” That sounds like a great YouTube video to promote and show people how your app works. One thing I wanted to say is safety. I live in Colorado, so safety’s always a concern. If you go any place in the woods, even in the back 40, you slip on your stand. It would be nice to be able to stay safe in the woods. Briefly tell us when that safety notification system feature is going to be available on Hunt’n Buddy.
That is available. It’s within the dashboard. You go to the safety notification tab and you open the tab. On the right side is a plus sign. It will prompt you the first time you use it to allow Hunt’n Buddy to access your contacts. You select yes. This app is used to help you. It’s not stealing your data. It’s not sharing your data. You’re going to click yes as normally. Most people probably click no with all that stuff. You want Hunt’n Buddy to access your location and access your contacts because it’s made to keep you safe. That being said, you select and you search for a contact that you want to select. You click your brother, sister, aunt, uncle, select them as the safety notification contact. It will go save and you’ll see a tab or in the center eye level of the screen, it will say enable SMS. You select that, it will turn green and then that means that your location is now being shared with whoever you have selected.
You can then put the phone in your pocket and your pack, whatever. You don’t have to use the app. You don’t have to have the app open. As long as the phone is powered on and there’s some cell service, every hour on the hour, it will automatically send an emergency alert to those selected contacts saying, “Bruce is hunting at,” location, latitude, longitude. It also has a Google Map that if the contact wants to open, they can pinpoint where you are. We have pending patent on that and that is a baseline of what we have set up for that function, which can’t go into any further, obviously. That’s something personal to me as well. A lot of people are pretty impressed with that. That’s just the tip of the iceberg with that function that we have set up pending. It is available. That does work.
We’ve tested that numerous times, different locations. Not only does that have to be used during hunting either, if you guys are hiking, if you want to go to a place you meet somebody on Craigslist and a little nervous and you’ve got to go pick something up. This is all from users that have given us feedback. It does work and it does have additional uses. The sky’s the limit with it. That is available on the free version. You can use that function on the free version for now. Download the app, get into the entry, make sure you guys check out Rush Outdoors, Rush Uncut in the Pursuit Channel. I know everybody’s following Spencer Boyd because he’s kicking some ass in the Xfinity Series. We’re going to see him moving up. That’s pretty much it. Thanks for having us along here, Bruce. It means a lot to us and to me.
Thanks so much.
