Stefan Wilson shares the value of combining fitness and hunting
Bruce: Welcome to another episode of Whitetail Rendezvous. This is your host Bruce Hutcheon. And right now, we’re going to head down to New Mexico and talk to Stefan Wilson. Stefan is a very interesting guy. Stefan Wilson shares the value of combining fitness and hunting He loves to hunt. He got his first elk when he was 15 years old. He’s a youth pastor and he’s got a great family going and also he has a website HuntingFit.com. Stefan, welcome to the show.
Stefan: Well, thank you for having me.
Bruce: So, Stefan, let’s talk about first off HuntingFit.com, why it exists, what you hope to do with that and how people can get in touch with you.
Stefan: Well, HuntingFit.com really started as just something that I wanted to do as a resource for other hunters because what I realized was that when I started training for my hunts, when I started actually investing time in how I trained before I started hunting, it markedly changed my success. When I was able to go farther, stay out longer, climb those intense mountains and stuff a lot easier, it made it where I was a lot more effective out in the field. And so when I made that connection, I just thought I want to do something that is a resource for other hunters as well where they can hopefully have the same increased success as a result of training. And so that’s why I put the website together. It’s essentially a compilation of training articles, nutrition articles, gear that will help you out in the field and it’s really easy to find. It’s just HuntingFit.com. I’m also on Twitter @Hunting_Fit and also on Facebook. So it’s really easy to find. It’s not meant to be a money-maker. It’s meant to be a resource for other hunters.
Bruce: What drove you? I know you shared you figured out that if you were in shape, you could hunt harder, hunt longer and become more successful. And I think Cameron Hayes, he’s made a career out of actually doing that. So what really tripped your trigger to say, “Hey, I’m going to share this. I’m going to be a resource.” And you just said you weren’t monetizing it, so you’re giving it away. Why is that important to you?
Well, at heart, I’m a teacher
Stefan: Well, at heart, I’m a teacher. I’m a youth pastor as my full-time job. It’s something that I love to do is just teach other people and see the light bulb click, see the change that takes place when somebody finally gets whatever it is that they’re trying to learn. That’s something that I absolutely love, and so when it comes to hunting, it’s no different. This year, my wife is going to be hunting with me. And she’s gone with me years before, but this is the first year she’s actually got her own archery kit and I’ve loved every minute of being able to teach her about elk hunting, teach her how to shoot her bow, teach her how to train. And so I say that just to give an example of my heart is to teach. And so Hunting Fit is just an extension of that desire to teach and desire to see other people succeed through what I’m able to teach them.
Bruce: Yeah, and I salute that. I really do.
